Malawi to anticipate great rainfall in 2020/2021 growing season

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The country’s department of climate change and meteorological services has predicted that Malawi will experience heavy rainfall during 2020/2021 Rainfall season.

The department’s director Jolamu Nkhokwe said this during a press briefing on Monday, 14 September in Blantyre.

The anticipation of good rainfall is due to La Nina that has developed over the Pacific ocean.

Nkhokwe further said that from October to December 2020, most of the southern and central areas are expected to receive normal to above normal rainfall amounts.

While most of the northern areas are expected to receive normal to below rainfall amounts.

Nkhokwe also said that during January to March 2021, most areas in the south, center and the north are expected to receive normal to above normal rainfall amounts.

However, pockets of dry conditions are expected mostly over south and centre.

The MET chief has also warned those living in floods prone areas to take extra proctection measures during the rain season.
