Malawi Govt secures funds to repatriate stranded students in China amid Covid-19
LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi government has finally secured funding to assist 292 Malawian students who finished their studies to return home from China.
In a letter responding to Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI)’s appeal for the students support, issued on Friday August 28 and signed by Luckie Sikwese, Secretary of Foreign Affairs disclosed that government provided top up allowances to 56 students who were stranded in Wuhan city, Hubei province the epicenter of Covid-19 in China to cushion them amid lockdown measures that the country imposed between January and March 2020.
Sikwese said government will make sure the financial resources are channeled to all Malawian students still continuing and those that finished their studies through the embassy in Beijing immediately.
It has also disclosed that it is expecting the reopening of airports in Malawi on 1st September to facilitate the returning of students who have completed their studies in China.
