LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-As Corona Virus continues to scare the world, Chinese business tycoon, Jack Ma, has made a donation of medical supplies to Malawi as one way of equipping the country’s health system to fight the deadly virus if it finds its way into the country.
The donation arrived in the country on Wednesday through Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in the capital Lilongwe from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
According to Chinese Ambassador to Malawi, Liu Hongyang, more medical supplies from China are on its way to help fight Covid-19.
“We are in this together with Malawi,” Liu tweeted.
The donation comes at a time stakeholders in the country are not showing seriousness in the fight against the pandemic.
Recently, the Malawi judiciary made a ruling that showed lack of seriousness and disregard of Malawian lives by releasing four Chinese nationals who had been quarantined on arrival at KIA.
Meanwhile, a Malawian based in United States of America, Elwin Mandowa, has torn apart the opposition leaders’ decision of forcing Malawians to stay away from work to force Jane Ansah’s resignation.
Mandowa argues that staying away from work is likely to disturb the country’s economy thereby paralyzing the health system, which is a setback in the fight against covid-19.
“What true leaders would demand at this moment is fortifying our economy in case we get hit by coronavirus. A virus that has shown how vulnerable the US health system is.
“A virus that has paralyzed New York City the town that never slept. They lack simple medical equipment for their first responders. Simple things like protection masks,” said Mandowa.
“Yet in our country instead of leaving partisanship aside we are in the middle of a political squabble. If we get infected like Italy and many of us die, who will care who is running MEC?” he added.
Coronavirus outbreak began in Wuhan, a Chinese city.
