Pilau, roast chicken and avocado: Food galore at the Sh1m royal wedding watch party

As the clock ticks down oo one of the biggest events of the year, the Royal Wedding, a hotel in the city that offered its guests a chance to watch event live has said it has been sold out.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will get married on Saturday at the Windsor Castle in the United Kingdom and will have their wedding televised live around the world.

Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club on Friday said that their Sh1 million TV watching event has been sold out.

The hotel had said they will have an exclusive viewing of the wedding that comes with a complete “champagne toast and live commentary throughout the ceremony to make this day what can only be described as a True Royal Wedding experience”.

On Friday, they also revealed what those who paid Sh1 million to watch the event what they will partake during the six-hour ceremony.

Apart from the four course meal, those who paid the amount will enjoy a night for two at the hotel and a helicopter ride to Mt Kenya for breakfast.

The menu titled The Wedding Watch Party will be based on a British Royal Wedding which will include Starters, second course on the table, mains and puddings.

The menu is expectedly wedding-themed. The starter inlcudes Meghan Markle’s Grilled Caesar Salad with Shrimp.

In other words you will have a quinoa and balsamic roasted beetroot and onion salad with Laikipia Goat Feta, cherry tomatoes and avocado.

The second course one will have a choice of between trilogy of rice, traditionally British Kedgeree with locally smoked sea fish or Lamb, apricot and almond pilaf or as Kenyans call it pilau.

First there will be Hume’s coronation chicken which was created by Constance Spry and Rosemary Hume for the Queen’s coronation luncheon in January 1953.

The chef believes the British Kedegree traces back to 1340 or earlier and was introduced as a breakfast dish in Victoria times.

The dish includes smoked and flaked sea fish, rice, boiled eggs, curry spices and parsley.   

The main meal will also be a choice of Pan-roasted fillet of salmon with marinated new potatoes, line caught tuna and dill salad, Queen Anne’s

artichoke tart (vegan) or Duck Confit with lentils and cannellini beans. A vegan which is an attribute to Anne Bleyn, Henry VIII’s 5th wife.

DIFFERENT KINDS OF PUDDINGS

At the end you will top up with two different kinds of puddings which will be a terrine of summer fruits with Jersey Cream or Eton Mess.

The entire menu will be prepared by Chef James Dennis from Soames Hotel, Nanyuki.

Kensington Palace announced that Harry and Markle have selected pastry chef Claire Ptak, owner of the East London-based bakery Violet Cakes, to create their wedding confection.

“Prince Harry and Ms. Markle have asked Claire to create a lemon elderflower cake that will incorporate the bright flavours of spring,” the Kensington Palace said. “It will be covered with buttercream and decorated with fresh flowers.”

Traditionally, royals have fruit cake when they tie the knot; Prince William and Kate Middleton served up slices of the dessert, as did Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip and Prince Charles and Princess Diana, among others.

So Harry and Markle’s choice of cake, which will reportedly be made with organic Amalfi lemons and English elderflower, is a more modern choice.
