NMG chairman Kiboro asks govt to support varsities
The government has been urged to improve support for private universities for the critical role they play in education.
Speaking during the second graduation ceremony of Riara University in Nairobi, Nation Media Group chairman Wilfred Kiboro said the government’s support is important considering that the institutions had been started by individuals.
“It is also our sincere hope that the Universities Funding Board will be adequately resourced to support private universities with soft loans to support infrastructure development and acquisition of other critical resources,” he said.
He praised the university for focusing on quality education.
“I am thrilled to note that Riara has the belief that we would rather produce few quality graduates than masses of graduates that employers are not interested in,” he said.
Vice-chancellor Robert Gateru said in a bid to make graduates market ready, the university had partnered with ArcSkills.com under their Skills 21 programme.
“The programme seeks to develop 21st Century soft skills among graduates using methods they can relate to including gamification,” he added.
