Malawi’s God Cares NGO takes 38 Mzuzu street kids to technical colleges
MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-Thirty eight street kids in Mzuzu the northern green City of Malawi have a chance to see a bright future after given an opportunity to complete their tertiary education.
The 38 according to Blesco Nyawungulu who is the project officer of God Cares organization are those who have ability to get the vocational skills.
Out of the group, 19 are trained as plumbers, 13 electrical installation, while 6 Carpenters.
Nyawungulu said the 38 have been sent to receive the training at Ray training skills vocation center under the Livingstonia college which is situated at Ekwendeni in Mzimba district.
“The 38 were selected randomly in Chibavi, one of the locations in Mzuzu City which is our catchment area. Our aim is to improve the lives of such kids. As organization, we understand that they are there because of lack of parental support,” said Nyawungulu.
Peter Mwanguku who is one of the beneficiaries doing electrical installation thanked the organization for the offer.
“I stopped education at primary level because of lack of school fees. I started a job of selling mandazi and begging in the street before approached by the God Cares organization. Believe me or not, my life will not be the same. Stress kid name will be a history to me, thanks to the organization,” he said.
The organization also distributed school uniforms and materials such as notebooks and ballpoint pens to 150 street kids who were brought back to school.
The 150 learners are those placed in different primary schools in Mzuzu City.
This publication understand that the organization is also supporting other learners in secondary schools with school fees and other materials.
All the supported were street kids from Chibavi location in Mzuzu.
God cares organization is implementing a two year project in Mzuzu city with funding from Egmond Trust of England.
