Malawi court frees Kottana Chidyaonga’s suspected assassins despite deceased’ body containing pesticide
LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The High Court in Lilongwe on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 freed four suspects, who were being accused of murdering Kottana Chidyaonga.
The court found the four had no case to answer.
Chidyaonga died in January this year and it was suspected that she died due to a snake bite, while another school of thought alleged that she might have been murdered.
Judge Thomson Ligowe says the court has found no substantial evidence from state to prove the case hence it has acquitted the suspects.
Ligowe ruled the four acquittal despite that pesticide, Termik was found in the deceased body.
The judge hinted that the state failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt the time the pesticide was injected and who exactly administered the poisonous substance.
The four acquitted suspects including Ekari Daniella Chaweza, Gilbert Kalamiza, Timothy Mtilisanje and Diana Bhangwanji who broke down in tears after they walked out the court room.
