Former Malawi’s Lilongwe Mayor Bikoko charged for office power abuse on illegal land deals….Granted bail
LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate Court on Wednesday afternoon granted bail to former Mayor for Lilongwe City Desmond Bikoko who has since been charged with two counts of abuse of office.
ACB lawyer Benjamin Mandala said that the bureau will now await consent from Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to proceed with prosecution.
The court has set December 11 2019 for Bikoko to take plea.
Bail bond includes K20,000 cash, two surities K1 million each, surrendering traveling documents and Bikoko is expected to appear before ACB offices every Monday fortnightly.
Lawyer for Bikoko, Gilbert Khonyongwa, said he is looking forward to the date of the trial.
Senior Resident Magistrate Florence Msekandiana heard the matter.
ACB on Wednesday morning arrested Bikoko over his alleged involvement in land issues.
Bikoko was summoned to the bureaus offices in Lilongwe earlier today for questioning and he obliged later was taken to court.
