DPP leadership crisis: Concerned NGC members give Mutharika 14 days to resolve wrangles
LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Leadership crisis seems to be wider than anticipated in the former governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)as concerned National Governing Council (NGC) members have given its president Peter Mutharika 14 days ultimatum to resolve the wrangles rocking the party.
The grouping has also called for NGC meeting which will decide on dates for immediate electoral convention for new leadership.
The party’s NGC concerned members have called upon the leadership of the party to immediately dissolve the positions that were resolved by Central Executive Committee a few days in Mangochi.
The grouping told the news conference on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 in the capital Lilongwe that time is ripe to rebuild the party after the presidential election loss on June 23, 2020.
The grouping therefore threatens use other means to protect their party if Mutharika will not address the wrangles.
Acting DPP National Director of Political Affairs Baxter Kitta also told Mutharika to immediately dissolve positions that were resolved by the Central Executive Committee in Mangochi saying they are void and unacceptable.
He further demanded that there should be no any Commitee meeting with the party president until a full NGC meeting is called.
“This is the time to look back on what made the mighty DPP to loose June 23, 2020 presidential elections. But instead of rebuilding the party some party individuals are still busy misleading our president Peter Mutharika.
“This is the reason we are calling our leader (Adad) to take the party from Mangochi to the ground that it does not loose its structures. We want him (Mutharika) to resolve leadership wrangles as soon as possible and stop meeting central executive committee for party decisions until the NGC meeting is convened,” challenges Kitta.
There was no immediate reaction from newly appointed DPP spokesperson Brown Mpinganjira.
