Chilima demands serious surveillance on imported COVID-19 prevention health materials into Malawi
LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Vice President and UTM leader Dr. Saulos Chilima on Wednesday demanded vigorous surveillance on any imported COVID-19 prevention health materials in a bid to control contaminated items with the virus.
Chilima was responding to The Maravi Post question during the Wednesday, April 8, 2020 on reports that COVID-19 prevention materials from China are infected with the virus.
The UTM leader hinted that the authority must guard all geographical positions in which COVID-19 prevention materials comes from.
“There shouldn’t be specific countries we need to check where these COVID-19 prevention materials comes from. Whether is China or any other countries, serious survellance on the them must be done to contain infected items into Malawi”, urges Chilima.
This comes after British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is said to have decided to pull out of the 5G contract with Chinese firm Huawei.
It has been reported that the British PM came to the decision after he was furious about a recent shipment of test kits bound for the UK were found to be contaminated with coronavirus.
Furthermore, Boris Johnson too is said to have gone into self-quarantine after being tested positive for Coronavirus.
The test kits were assembled in Luxembourg by food safety and laboratory testing services firm Eurofins.
The infected elements are “probes and primers,” the long, thin swabs that medical personnel use to collect samples from the nasal and oral cavities.
