American Church responds to Malawi’s Katawa CCAP Church cries on Covid-19
MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-First Presbyterian Church of America on Wednesday donated food items to grannies and vulnerable families at Katawa CCAP Church in the northern green City of Mzuzu.
Each person or family received six kilograms (Kgs) of beans, four pockets of sugar, four litters of cooking oil, 50 kgs bag of maize, four kgs salt and four thousand Malawi kwacha.
The donation comes after approached by some Katawa CCAP Church members.
Speaking during the donation, Rev. John Gondwe of Katawa CCAP Church said the American Church has injected over 3 million kwacha in the development.
According to Gondwe apart from keeping the Katawa CCAP Church members in prayers, the American Church which is its real friend thought of helping the vulnerable and needer families with the donation.
“We have been friends with members of the First Presbyterian Church of America since 2012 and when they held that the pendemic has reached our country too, they thought it wise to help us with a little something for the most needer members at our church,” he said.
” we are very greatful with the donation because faith will action is nothing but with this donation we have proved that we are doers of the word of God,” he continues.
One of the beneficiaries a 78 year old Winnie Mvula thanked the American Church for the donation.
According to her, the only help which came from her children is not enough since some are not receiving their monthly salaries.
“This is the first in its kind and has come at the right time since my children who have been supporting me have been affected dearly with the covid -19 pandemic,” said Mvula.
In his remarks, the chair person of katawa CCAP welfare committee Christie Musukwa said about 133 people have benefited from the donation.
Malawi has not been left behind with the covid-19 pandemic which has forced government to shut down schools among others.
As of May 22, 2020, Malawi had 82 Covid-19 cases with three deaths.
